if a crystal gets stuck in the tip, place the tip where you want the crystal to come out on the garment, and take a pin or tweezers or needle and slip it in the slits on the sides of the tip. wedge out the crystal, and then again, place the tip around it to re-heat the glue and stabilize the crystal again. (this would also be an indication that you need to clean the tip.) also, don't really push the tip down hard on the crystal. that might wedge it into the tip too much and it won't release.
if you like to press down on the crystal after you have positioned it, wear a plaster on the pressing finger…the stones get hot!
when using lots of different sized stones i like to stick to using a flat tip, place the stones where i want them and then touch the tops for a few seconds each stone until the glue melts. this saves me having to wait to change the tip all the time, depending which size of stone i am using.
